Rehabilitative Management Outcome of Dysphagia

Abstract

|
Swallowing is a brief but intricate process. When this process is disrupted as in patients with neurogenic disorders aspiration or malnutrition can occur.
A retrospective study was conducted to dtermine the treatment outcome of neurogenic dysphagia. Seventeen (55%) out of thirty-one dysphagic patients entered in this study became successful oral feeders and the average time needed for the
successful
treatment process was about five weeks. cough reflex, swallowing reflex, disability rate, and cognitive function were asociated with the outcome of dysphagia.
